The Bangor Region Leadership Institute: Project Teams
The Bangor region faces many issues that affect our businesses, our community and our overall quality of life. The goal of the BRLI Project Teams segment is to address specific community issues within the framework of a team-based environment. The teams research as many aspects of the topic as possible over a period of several months and, based on their research and discussions, develop potential solutions to the problems and alternative ways to look at the issue in question. The participants utilize team-building, facilitation and personality awareness skills developed through programs offered by BRLI with a focus on accomplishing their tasks.
A network of community leaders is made available to project teams as a resource for information, guidance and experience. At the end of the exercise, the results of the team’s work are presented in a community forum. The Project Team component of BRLI is also intended to forge lasting bonds between team members and encourage continued community involvement and leadership after graduation from the Institute.
Class of 2008 Project Teams worked on:
Planning the Governor's Small Business Conference
Penobscot Valley Pathways: Increasing awareness and access to public walking trails through launching a website with trail listings and hosting weekly nature walks
- The Class of 2009 will work on increasing higher education attainment in our region.
