The Building Bridges Program is a business-education partnership sponsored by the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce. Hundreds of educators including teachers, school superintendents, guidance counselors, school board members, parents and students have acclaimed Building Bridges as one of the most effective educational activities they have experienced. Participating businesses find it a valuable means to develop the future workforce. From January to May each year, Maine businesses host on-site tours for approximately twenty educators. During lively discussions, business representatives and educators explore the specifics of the rapidly changing workplace and the implications for preparation of students who already are or soon will be entering it. A quest for mutual understanding and a curiosity about each others' mission infuse these discussions and elicit valuable suggestions and ideas. The Building Bridges Program, although it was one of the first of its kind in Maine, is now among more than thirty in various parts of the state. For those who live in the Bangor Region, it represents one of the most exciting educational partnership activities available. The program offers 4.5 teacher re-certification credits (CEU's).
