Charting Maine’s Future, the landmark Brookings Institution study produced by GrowSmart Maine, said that in order to achieve sustainable prosperity for Maine and its people, one requirement is to reinvent the way government works – not in the context of a budget cycle or two, but long-term structural change that will be felt for many future generations.GrowSmart Maine is now actively exploring a follow-up study focusing on reinventing Maine’s government. The study would examine how Maine compares to other rural states, recommend ways to improve the efficiency of government while lowering taxes and meeting our responsibilities as a state. GrowSmart would partner with a nationally-recognized leader in government restructuring, the Public Strategies Group.

The Public Strategies group is headed by Boston resident David Osbourne, who is the bestselling author of Reinventing Government, The Price of Government, and numerous other books, articles and reports.
