The Bangor Region Wellness Council (BRWC) has achieved another milestone! The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) has recognized the local group’s ongoing success and has expanded our service area to include the state of Maine.

Our name is changing to Wellness Council of Maine. Although our name is changing, our commitment to quality and service to our 86+ members will remain the same.

Chamber Annual Dinner sets record attendance

The Bangor Region Chamber’s annual dinner sells out. This year’s dinner will host the largest number of attendees in the event’s history; with over 720 in attendance. The dinner is a celebration of the region as well as individuals and organizations that make a difference.

The Chamber will present 7 awards, three of them new. The format for the event will be different from prior years and more dynamic. All of the awards have sponsors who will be presenting the award on behalf of the Chamber. The dinner has a dinner sponsor: Oxford Networks and a reception sponsor – Rhodes Building Products. The awards and presenters are:

Dowd Award: Sister Norberta: sponsored by Merrill Merchants Bank and Downeast Toyota. Ed Clift and Ed Darling will be making the presentation. Criteria attached.

Bangor Region Guidebook Receives Make-Over

Have you heard? The 2008 Bangor Region Guidebook is getting a full make-over this year and we want you to be in the hottest guide to the region. This full color magazine style publication is now bigger and better and includes even more information about the area.

New sections feature this region’s specialties and highlights: Visitor Facts, Getting Here, Arts & Entertainment, History, Healthy Living, Hike, Bike, & Strolls, Family Fun Adventures, Shopping, Dining, and Accomodations One of the new sections will be Dining which will include restaurants and cafes. Make sure your business stands out and help support the addition of these new sections, by placing your ad in the Bangor Region Guidebook.

Plus we are increasing the distribution of 2008 guidebooks. Last year’s 45,000 was distributed to all of the state information centers, area hotels/motels, tourism conventions throughout New England, local events like the American Folk Festival, included in relocation packets and even Miss Maine takes copies to all her events. Every visitor and inquiry to the area thru the CVB and the Chamber receives one.

Chamber Endorses Bond Questions 2 and 3

voteThe Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce has endorsed passage of two bond proposals on the November 6 ballot – Question 2, the jobs and economic development bond; and Question 3, the higher education bond.

“Eastern Maine is fortunate to have a great concentration of universities, colleges, and R&D facilities,” stated Candy Guerette, BRCC President. “In fact, the region’s economy is heavily dependent on higher education and research institutions. The BRCC endorses Questions 2 and 3 and urges its members to promote their passage. Voter approval will be good for the region's economy and quality of life.”
