Bald Mountain to the east, and the rolling hills that shield Penobscot Bay to the south and toward Down East Maine.
Twenty-five minutes from the coast of Maine, with close proximity to theater, shopping and health care, Holden attracts many individuals nearing retirement, who are looking to construct their dream home.
History
Incorporated April 13, 1852. Located just east of the City of Brewer, on U.S. Route 1A, Holden was first surveyed and settled by General John Blake, officer of the 5th Massachusetts Regiment (1775-1780). Many of the town’s first settlers were veterans of the revolutionary war, and their names are still associated with geographical locations around the town. Serviced first by stagecoach and then by rail, Holden continues to maintain a strong relationship with Brewer and Bangor, acting as a gateway to those cities from points further downeast.
