Located along the Penobscot River, above the City of Old Town, Milford is located thirteen miles north-northeast of Bangor. Like many other communities along the river, Milford’s early growth was a function of the need for water production.
Milford retained an important role in the production of waterpower, becoming one of the important sites for Bangor HydroElectric Company’s local hydropower production. The town is a popular location for the residences of those employed in the Old Town area.
History
Incorporated in 1835, Milford is located along the Penobscot River, above the city of Old Town. Like many of the other communities along the river, Milford’s early growth was a function of the need for waterpower. Milford retained an important role in the production of waterpower for the general needs of the area, becoming one of the important sites for Bangor Hydro-Electric Company’s local hydropower production. The town has also become a bedroom community of the greater Bangor area, as well as a popular location for the residences of many of those employed in Old Town.
